Constans Small Bronze - 2 Soldiers, 1 Standard Reverse

GLORIA EXERCITVS Type
Deciding in which ruler's name this coin was struck was definitely a challenge for this author. Originally, attribution was done based on a count of the little bumps on the obverse that were once letters in the obverse legend. There were just enough of them to make the legend CONSTAN SPFAVG a plausible choice. What remains of the bust looks a lot like a portrait of Constantius II, though. Searching through LRBC, the author discovered that there were a few right facing laureate busts of Constans wearing a cuirass and paladumentum and that Constantius II was similarly attired on these issues. Careful examination of t he coin under good light led to the decision that the coin was most probably one of Constans.
