MONETA

Juno Moneta was the Roman patron goddess of money and the minting of money. Early Roman Senatorial mints were located in the temple of Juno Moneta within the city of Rome. The allegorical figure Moneta is derived from Juno Moneta, with the first name of the goddess being dropped and just the Moneta remaining. Her attributes include a scales and cornucopiae. Needless to say, coins with a Moneta reverse are popular amongst Roman coin collectors!

Another example of an image of Moneta on a coin reverse may be seen by viewing a Radiate of Postumus.

Clicking the small image of a Follis of Maximianus at left will reveal a much larger image of yet a third example of Moneta's image on a coin.
