INDVLGENTIA

Indulgentia is the personnification of indulgence and mercy. Her attributes are a patera and sceptre. Though the coin image is worn, the sceptre is clearly visible under her left arm. The patera, a sacrificial bowl out of which a grain libation was poured is visible even though Indulgentia's right arm is worn completely off the coin.

This image of Indulgentia appears on the reverse of an Antoninianus of Quietus. Quietus was emperor for only a little more than a year and his coins are somewhat scarce. Indulgentia is not very often seen on Roman coins, and this is the only example in the author's collection.
