Serpent
The serpent in our culture is usually considered to be a harmful or deceitful creature because, in our Christian heritage, the chief fallen angel Satan was changed into a serpent. In the classical Roman pagan religion, a serpent was associated with healing, in particular the god Aesculapius. Salus, the Roman personification of health, safety, and welfare is usually depicted on Roman coin reverses feeding a serpent.
