Marc Bettinger

Marc Bettinger

Marc is extremely knowledgeable concerning Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and most other classical history. He deals not only in ancient coins but in small artifacts as well. He usually has a beautiful collection of Roman fibulae (cloak pins), bronze arrow points, lead sling bolts, and other small artifacts. As of the publication of thie article (March, 1998) Marc has a unique and beautiful collection of Byzantine and a few European crosses made of bronze, lead, and even silver. Some of these are reliquaries, opening up to reveal a small compartment where the ashes of saints were kept. If Marc and the author can get our schedules to coordinate, we intend to scan this collection before it is all sold and publish it in the form of a virtual gallery. In the meantime, the items are for sale as Marc is in business as an antiquities dealer and has to pay the bills. A visit to his bourse table at any of the coin shows he attends is a veritable hands - on visit to a museum of ancient art. For those who wish to get his show schedule, Marc's address is:
