Notice the exaggerated, almost claw - like serifs on the letters of this inscription. This was common in lettering on Third Century coins. The legend, RESTITVTOR ORBIS, means "Restorer of the World". The wonderful style of Aurelian's portrait on the obverse of this coin make it one of the author's little gems. The ragged flan is probably what caused dealer Michael Marx to price it quite inexpensively, around twelve dollars if memory serves me right. Today, it occupies a place of esteem in the collection of one who fully appreciates it.
